Earth Medicine

Indigenous people saw life more mystical and mythical than literal—with no sacred texts to soften their minds. Nature was their guide, the sky above and the earth below. They tapped into the power of their ancestors and the unseen world. They worshipped in nature and respected the power of the sky, the sea, and the earth. In our everyday life, nature is one of the means for us to be able to see life through a mystical consciousness rather than a literal one. We develop a natural consciousness and a strong mind and heart the closer we are to nature. It is here where we feel and experience oneness, not a separation from all things of the earth. This is Earth Medicine.

Indigenous science is esoteric or sacred science including somatic science. Early anthropologist Bronislaw Malinowski, in his arguments for the universality of science among all peoples, recognized Indigenous peoples’ knowledge as science. Malinowski provided evidence that it was based on careful observation and experience, belief in regularity, with reasoning and logic, and the repetition of acts, stating that traditional knowledge involved a body of rules and conceptions based on experience and derived from it by logical influence, embodied in material achievements. This is Earth Medicine.

Indigenous peoples always knew Mother Earth was the greatest teacher and healer and her stones, her soil, her water’s, her plants and her animals brought us deep teaching and deep healing over the centuries. Our sacred relationship with Mother Earth has been defiled across the globe and today we see the disastrous consequences everywhere. We need to join our energies to transform hearts and minds to a deeper understanding of the complex issues we all need to grapple with together.  This is Earth Medicine.

Indigenous worldview values metaphor, storytelling, and the four directions, the four winds reflected as a circle, such as our Four Winds Medicine Wheel. Fundamental to Indigenous Worldview and Knowledge is the awareness that beyond the immediate sensible world of perception, memory, imagination, ability, or medicine is the Otherworld of spirit and the realm of the ancestors. The ancient Mesoamerican worldview was focused on spiritual health, or alignment with the Otherworld as the most important consideration of “health.” This is Earth Medicine, your path and way to healing, health, and optimum wellness.

Earth Doctor – Protector of the Earth: Doctor of Earth Medicine and Good Medicine

Medicine must go back to nature and a physician should be the high priest of nature.—Rudolf Virchow

So that there is no confusion or an attempt to fool anyone, an earth doctor is Not a medical doctor. To further clarify, the word doctor comes from the Latin word for “teacher,” itself from docēre, meaning “to teach.” Simply, doctor is the Latin word for “teacher.” Furthermore, the meaning of doctor in the Oxford dictionary is “a person skilled in, and therefore entitled to teach or speak authoritatively on, any branch of knowledge, a learned person.” In other words, an earth doctor will teach others and guide them in Indigenous and esoteric ways to heal and become “whole,” to become balanced in body, mind, emotion, and spirit.
